The Girls

Lauren Barker, who sometimes says she’s from LA and sometimes says she’s from New York, has been planning this trip for 5 years.  Shortly after college, she lived in Australia for six months — and caught the travel bug .  Her favorite places to watch the sunset are at the Lazy Lizard on the split in Caye Caulker, Belize and on the roof of her old apartment in Brooklyn.  When she returns to the U.S., she plans to start working on a documentary, the subject of which she only reveals to those she trusts.

Beth George somehow miraculously convinced Lauren to let her follow her around on this trip.  A Southerner and a New Yorker, Beth constantly complains about missing Southern food when she’s in New York and missing every other kind of food when she’s in the South.  Beth speaks enough French to order food and reserve a hotel and enough Arabic to tell someone to “go away.”  (Neither language will be very helpful on this trip.) Her teenage dream job was to own a recording studio, but (alas!) she hopes to start law school when she returns to the U.S.

Ha, I still have the demo tape Beth sold to me during her short stint as teenage “Manager” for our classmates.

And Caye Caulker - one of these days I’ll stay there instead of Ambergris before heading inland for jungle adventures (Cave tubing, FTW!)

Beth, it was a pleasure meeting you. Thanks for putting up with the non-stop chatter between me and Lauren. Good luck in all of your next endeavors, girls! xo

    Hi, Lauren and Beth,

I’m a friend of Colleen H. (she was our nanny while she lived with you in 2006).

By chance, would you have time in the next couple weeks to talk with my students at the UN (staff and affiliated diplomats) about your trip?

As part of a unit on travel, my ‘English Level 6′ students had looked at your blog, and they’d love to meet you. Our class meets on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2pm. Would you be available mid-day to talk to the students for an hour - followed by lunch at or near the UN - my treat?

If so, please give me a call at my office number: 212-963-2001 Thanks!

    -Jodi
